William Butler Yeats wrote many memorable poems and was awarded the Nobel prize for literature in 1923.
Yeats spent many years of his life besotted with the beautiful actress Maud Gonne. In the poem 'When You Are Old' Yeats invites Maud Gonne to cast her mind forward to a time when she will be old and grey, to a time when she is no longer glamorous but a frail old woman sitting by the fireside. He says that he is unlike other men, he loved her for who she is deep inside and not just her looks.
